Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr Jingan Young (Yang Jing’an 楊靜安) is a Screenwriter, Editor, Journalist and Lecturer in Higher Education.
She is currently guest writing on the global thriller RED EYE for ITVx and Bad Wolf/Sony Pictures starring Richard Armitage which will air in 2024. In 2023, she was invited to join BAFTA as a Connect Member. She has written for CBBC (Biff & Chip S3) and has several TV and Film projects in development .
She was recently offered the role of Lecturer in Screenwriting at Regent's University. Previously she was the convenor in Screenwriting at Birkbeck University and has mentored young screenwriters informally for over a decade. She holds a PhD from King's College London (2020), a Master's from Oxford University (2014), and BA (Hons) from King's College London (2012). Her first monograph SOHO ON SCREEN was published by Berghahn Books with a foreword by Peter Bradshaw in May 2022 and was featured in Sight and Sound.She spearheaded the first British East Asian play collection published in the UK, Foreign Goods published by Bloomsbury Books in 2018, which features new writing from showcases she produced for ten years with her company POKFULAM RD PRODUCTIONS. The next volume is currently in development.
Once upon a time she was signed to a Hong Kong record company and has worked in Soho pubs and restaurants, including the Polpo Restaurant group whilst at university. She also held marketing posts with various Asian companies and in the UK, Creative Skillset.
She is a regular contributor to the Guardian and Sight and Sound and she previously wrote a column for the SCMP newspaper .
She is represented by Curtis Brown for screenwriting. She lives in London with her husband and son.
